In conjunction with the 10th anniversary of its Galaxy model, Samsung is offering S10e, a smaller variant of its flagship phone that holds itself strongly in the seas of bigger smartphones.
The phone, while lacks premium features compared to the S10 and S10 plus, is created for those who are interested in Samsung’s top-tier and latest devices but at a more affordable price.
I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity to play around with S10e for two weeks and upon unboxing the device, I immediately loved how well it fits into my palms. This compact 5.8-inch device has allowed me to navigate the S10e with only one hand, which I have to say I enjoyed a little too much. The aluminum frame is thick thanks to the flat edges, offering a good grip when holding the phone and I thoroughly enjoyed how the flat curve feels in my hands.
Besides the size of the device, I absolutely love how gorgeous Prism Green looks and was completely obsess over the deep green glass back. And in some lighting, the glass back has subtle deep blue hues which creates a duo chrome look. Both the front and back are completely glass Gorilla Glass 5, so a case is definitely a necessity if you are thinking of getting this phone.
Weighing at 150g, the S10e is equipped with an FHD Dynamic AMOLED screen and is a full HD+ Display. Adding on its high-quality sound system supported by Dolby Atmos and ample battery life at 3,100 mAh, I find this phone to be the perfect device to binge watch tv shows on Netflix. The phone also comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack and AKG-tuned stereo speakers.
This device has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor at the side of the phone which means it does not have the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor which is embedded in its screen like the other newly released Galaxy models. It is worth noting that the capacitive fingerprint sensor on S10e is super-fast and it doubles as the power button.
Another important feature for any smartphone is the camera. The S10e comes with two rear-facing main cameras: a dual-aperture f/1.5-2.4 12MP main camera with OIS for smoothing out your shaky footage and a 16MP f/2.2 ultrawide shooter.
The S10e also comes with a feature called Shot Suggestions, where it suggests better compositions. All you need to do is point the camera at the recommended “Best Shot” area and the phone will automatically take the photo.
It eliminates the need to tap the shutter button completely and most of the suggestions are great. I find this feature especially compositions helpful for people who are not that well versed in taking a good photograph but still desires a quality picture.
Besides that, the Galaxy S10e, feature an IP68 rating, the highest mobile device standard for water and dust resistance allowing me to worry less if I accidentally dropped it in water. Last but not least is the Wireless PowerShare which allows the Galaxy S10e to charge Qi-certified devices and some Samsung wearable devices like a wireless charger.
This feature is a game changer as all I have to do is simply place the device on top of the S10e in the center with no cables necessary. It’s like a better version of power bank and will make you popular among your friends, as they probably ask you to help power up their short battery life smartphones.
In Malaysia, the Samsung S10e is available in three colors namely Prism Black, Prism White and Prism Green and priced at RM 2,699 with 128 GB storage capacity.
