Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; 24 June 2020 - In compliance with Malaysia’s Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) until 31 August 2020, Sunway Velocity Hotel Kuala Lumpur has implemented numerous “new normal” Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), providing added assurance, comfort and peace of mind for all guests and staff. For guest safety, several of Sunway Velocity Hotel’s services have been adjusted and/or temporarily suspended until further notice.

Like the rest of Sunway Hotels & Resorts in Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam, Sunway Velocity Hotel has implemented “new norms” best practices and policies, enhancing its hygiene practices and protocols to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sunway Safe Stay programme incorporates five (5) pillars of safety and hygiene comprising of almost 30 protocols of heightened cleaning practices, assurance and well-being standards. 

Elaborating on the Sunway Stay Safe programme, Sunway Velocity Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Senior General Manager, Mr. Kelly Leong said, “We have always prioritised a stringent cleaning protocol at all our hotels to help ensure the comfort of our guests and colleagues. Whilst we are aware that the way people will choose to travel henceforth has changed, for us, the fundamentals of a safe and protected stay will not. This initiative includes the practice of highly visible and more frequent cleaning measures and different methods to food and beverage all reinforced by our new Sunway Stay Safe commitment which ultimately focuses on the holistic experience of our guests with a special emphasis on their wellbeing.” 

“These protocols were already in place on the onset of the outbreak in early January 2020 and will be continuously practiced throughout all Sunway Hotels & Resorts properties, adhering to the new standards and SOPs issued by the Ministry of Health and World Health Organisation. The programme builds on Sunway’s existing protocols and includes staff training and the formation of an advisory committee comprising of medical experts from Sunway Medical Centre and industry professionals,” he added.

Facilities that are temporarily closed and/or suspended during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) include the Kaffeinate express café, the scheduled city-wide shuttle services and the hotel’s swimming pool (scheduled to reopen on 1 July 2020). 

For dining, the hotel recommends numerous alternatives available at Sunway Velocity Mall. With over 150 food & beverage outlets, the mall operates daily from 10.00am to 10.00pm and easily accessible from the hotel’s main lobby or via the hotel’s level 5 lift lobby that links guests into the mall’s commune floor.

Laundry service is available to guests except for dry cleaning service. The hotel’s fitness centre, located at level 16, operates with strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Sunway Stay Safe protocols. The hotel limits the number of guests in the fitness centre to two (2) persons per 45-minute session, hence advanced booking is required. During the RMCO, the fitness centre operates daily from 7.00am to 10.00pm.

As part of the Sunway Safe Stay programme, all guest rooms in Sunway Velocity Hotel are thoroughly deep-cleaned, adhering to the most stringent sanitisation processes that include the 10 high-touch point hygiene protocol on surfaces such as switches and electrical controls, door handles and knob, bathroom surfaces, telephone and remote controls, bed and bedding, bath amenities, hard surfaces, closet items, food & beverage cutlery and thermostats. Thereafter, a notification will be placed at the room door to indicate that proper cleaning and sanitising has been undertaken. For guest comfort and peace of mind, daily housekeeping service will only be carried out upon request. Guest room key cards are also disinfected before and after usage.

Now that interstate travel within Malaysia has resumed, all Malaysians will be able to take advantage of the personal income tax relief of up to RM1,000.00 on expenditure related to domestic tourism (i.e. domestic hotel accommodation); providing every reason to holiday in Malaysia. The period for claiming income tax relief of RM1,000.00 incurred on domestic travelling expenses has been extended to 31 December 2021.  

Also announced as part of the National Economic Recovery Plan by the Government of Malaysia in June 2020, service tax exemption on accommodation and related services has been extended to 30 June 2021.
