The Shaanxi Halal Food Chamber of Commerce and Malaysian-Shaanxi Business Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) t\u00ac\u00ac\u00ac\u00ac\u00acodat at the 13t World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) to establish a cooperative relationship for the development of Halal-related economic opportunities for both Malaysian companies to China and China-based companies to Malaysia.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis cooperation solidifies the appetite of companies in the halal space across broader collaboration. Malaysian companies are interested to do business in China due to the high demand for halal products and services like food products, cosmetics and skincare, pharmaceuticals and logistics,\u201d said Datuk Joseph Kow, president of the Malaysia-Shaanxi Business Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Council was set up to facilitate Malaysian halal-based businesses to penertarte into the China mrket, with the assistance of the Shaanxi Halal Food Chamber of Commerce, which is one of the leading business association in the halal market,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
China is one of the world\u2019s fastest-growing market, with a halal market valued at US$21 billion with an annual growth rate of 10 per cent.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina has a robust domestic halal market. For example, Xi\u2019an, the capital of Shaanxi province produces halal products for consumers in other parts of China. Some even export to other countries,\u201d said Tie Qun Ping, President of the Shaanxi Halal Food Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n
\u201cMoving forward, we aim to be more inclusive with the 5,000 members that we have in the Shaanxi Halal Food Chamber of Commerce. We can only grow faster and more effectively by collaborating with other markets. We look forward to working with halal- based Malaysian companies through the council seeing as how halal products in Malaysia are highly-regarded because halal certification in Malaysia is globally-recognised due to its stringent standards,\u201d added Tie.<\/p>\n
The two business bodies will:<\/p>\n
Organise business forums for interested Malaysia based companies and Chinese based companies foor the purposes of establishing economic relationships;<\/p>\n
Organise round table discussions between the two countries\u2019 companies for the development of Halal-based businesses;<\/p>\n
Build long-term cooperation network for the understanding of Halal requirements for Malaysian and China based companies through training programmes.<\/p>\n
