BASF, the German chemical conglomerate,has completed the acquisition of several businesses and assets from Bayer.<\/p>\n
According to BASF, the acquisition is a strategic complement to BASF\u2019s crop protection, biotech and digital farming activities.<\/p>\n
The acquisition also marks BASF entry into seeds, non-selective herbicides and nematicide seed treatments.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis acquisition strengthens our market position in agricultural solutions and creates new opportunities for growth,\u201d said BASF SE member of the board of executive director, Saori Dubourg.<\/p>\n
BASF signed agreements in October 2017 and April 2018 to acquire the businesses and assets Bayer offered to divest in the context of its acquisition of Monsanto, for an all-cash purchase price of 7.6 billion euros, subject to certain adjustments at closing.<\/p>\n
Following the agreement, BASF acquired Bayer\u2019s global glufosinate-ammonium business, the vegetable seed business, the research and development platform for hybrid wheat, a range of seed treatment products, some glyphosate-based herbicides in Europe, digital farming platform xarvio and certain non-selective herbicide and nematicide research projects.<\/p>\n
The acquisition is also beneficial for customers as they will have access to even more tools to increase their yields, crop quality and profitability.<\/p>\n
The transactions have completed except for vegetable seeds business which closing is expected in mid-August 2018.<\/p>\n
In Malaysia, the acquisition includes Bayer\u2019s glufosinate-ammonium non-selective herbicides.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe glufosinate-ammonium non-selective herbicides is recognized for its effective and efficient weed management in oil palms, fruits and vegetables plantations.<\/p>\n
This transaction will further strengthen BASF\u2019s position as a sustainable agricultural solutions provider in Malaysia.\u201d said BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd managing director, Eng Leong Goh.<\/p>\n
