{"id":2505,"date":"2026-01-20T17:46:05","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T17:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/malaysian-business.com\/wptest\/2026\/01\/20\/iosco-gem-committee-elects-sc-chairman-to-vice-chair\/"},"modified":"2026-01-23T18:20:58","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T18:20:58","slug":"iosco-gem-committee-elects-sc-chairman-to-vice-chair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malaysian-business.com\/portal\/2026\/01\/20\/iosco-gem-committee-elects-sc-chairman-to-vice-chair\/","title":{"rendered":"IOSCO GEM Committee Elects SC Chairman to Vice Chair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) chairman, Datuk Syed Zaid Albar, has been elected the vice chair of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Growth and Emerging Markets (GEM) Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IOSCO GEM Committee\u2019s priorities are focused, among others, on policy and development work affecting emerging markets; risks and vulnerabilities assessments; and regulatory capacity building. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the largest Committee within IOSCO, representing close to 80 per cent of the IOSCO membership, including 11 of the G20 members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As vice chair of the GEM Committee, Datuk Syed will be a member of the IOSCO Board, the governing and standard-setting body of IOSCO. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also co-chairs the IOSCO GEM Committee Working Group on Sustainability in Emerging Markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cInternational cooperation and engagement through IOSCO is critical given the increasingly complex market environment, growing financial innovation and expanding cross-border activities,\u201d said Datuk Syed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMalaysia\u2019s leadership position at IOSCO strengthens the SC\u2019s commitment to drive the digital finance agenda and augments Malaysia\u2019s position as a regional leader in sustainable finance,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IOSCO is the leading global standard setter for securities regulation, whose membership regulates more than 95 per cent of the world\u2019s securities markets in more than 115 jurisdictions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The SC hosts the IOSCO Asia Pacific Hub in Kuala Lumpur, the first Regional Hub established outside of the IOSCO headquarters in Madrid, Spain.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) chairman, Datuk Syed Zaid Albar, has been elected the vice chair of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Growth and Emerging Markets (GEM) Committee.
