Kuala Lumpur, May 23 – Invest Selangor Berhad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Government of Victoria, Australia to collaborate in the areas of Information and Communication Technology, and food and agribusiness as well as Education and Training.<\/p>\n
Invest Selangor is a one-stop agency which provides information and advisory services to potential and existing investors as well as assistance in setting up operations in Selangor.<\/p>\n
Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris, CEO of Invest Selangor signed the MoU with Mr Brett Stevens, Commissioner to South East Asia, State Government of Victoria, witnessed by Datuk Teng Chang Khim, Selangor\u2019s Senior Executive Councillor for Investment, Industry & Commerce, SME & Transportation and Ms. Kathy Coultas, Director, ICT\/Tech Sector Development from the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources, State Government of Victoria on 22 May 2017.<\/p>\n
In his speech to welcome the Victorian delegation, which was on a one-day trade mission to Malaysia, Teng said that the signing augurs well with the State\u2019s efforts in attracting more players to make Selangor the base of ASEAN especially for high-tech industries such as e-commerce, aerospace and biotech.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s (22 May 2017) MoU indicates the second MoU signing within a week for Invest Selangor as another MoU was signed with the State of Bavaria during the recent Selangor State\u2019s trade mission to Germany to strengthen and encourage collaboration in a number of specific areas including automation and robotics, industry 4.0, IOT and Big Data, aerospace and biotechnology.<\/p>\n
The first MOU with the Free State of Bavaria in Germany was witnessed by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Bin Ali, Menteri Besar Selangor (Chief Minister of Selangor) and the Bavarian Ministry of Economy during the recent mission of Invest Selangor to Europe. Hasan signed the agreement with Bayern International CEO Joachim Heussler. Bayern International is the trade promotion and market expansion agency of the state of Bavaria.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Heussler highlighted that this is one of the first MOU\u2019s the organization has signed so far and furthermore announced an extensive workshop in Selangor for August 2017. In addition, Bayern International also appointed the in Malaysia operating entrepreneur Bernhard Schutte to be a first point of contact for all collaboration projects.<\/p>\n
In 2016, Selangor had outperformed its RM 6 billion target, achieving investments of RM7.88 billion in the manufacturing sector, however, a slight decrease from RM 7.96 billion in 2015.<\/p>\n
Selangor ranked second in Malaysia in terms of total direct investment in the manufacturing sector after Johor. However, based on the number of approved manufacturing projects, Selangor remained number one with 242 projects followed by Johor with 165 projects.<\/p>\n
Selangor has placed more effort into high-tech and sustainable industries and have set up four councils\u2014the Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC), the Selangor Bio Council, the Selangor Aerospace Council and also the Halal International Selangor Council to create a mechanism to push the industries forward and create the right playing field.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Smart Selangor Blueprint, an outline of the State\u2019s vision to develop Selangor into a Smart State of the future, had also been launched in 2016 to further cement our seriousness in bolstering the State Government\u2019s efforts in ensconcing itself as the most formidable and highest producing state in Malaysia,\u201d Teng added.<\/p>\n
Teng also took the opportunity to invite the Victoria\u2019s delegation to participate in the forthcoming Selangor International Business Summit 2017 which will run from September 7 – 17, 2017 at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC), Shah Alam.<\/p>\n
The 10-day event will be divided to three components namely the Selangor Smart City & Future Commerce Convention 2017 which will be held from September 7-9, the Selangor-ASEAN Business Conference which will run from September 11-12 and the Selangor International Expo 2017 which will run from September 14-17.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe event is aimed at positioning Selangor to become a global trading hub, especially in becoming the Gateway to ASEAN, as a business and trading hub for the ASEAN region.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Malaysia\u2019s largest economy the most progressive state, Selangor enjoys a highly developed infrastructure, advanced commercial ecosystem and a well\u2010established investment haven backed by excellent state government support to help business community do their businesses here,\u201d said Teng.<\/p>\n
As of 2015, Selangor singularly contributed a massive RM 240 billion, or, 22.6% to the national GDP, with a GDP growth rate of 5.7%.<\/p>\n
