{"id":7996,"date":"2026-07-16T13:08:39","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/malaysian-business.com\/portal\/?p=7996"},"modified":"2026-07-16T13:08:40","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:08:40","slug":"malaysia-taiwan-forge-strategic-bioeconomy-collaborations-at-bio-asia-taiwan-2026three-strategic-collaborations-unlock-new-opportunities-in-sustainable-agriculture-advanced-bio-based-materials-and","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malaysian-business.com\/portal\/2026\/07\/16\/malaysia-taiwan-forge-strategic-bioeconomy-collaborations-at-bio-asia-taiwan-2026three-strategic-collaborations-unlock-new-opportunities-in-sustainable-agriculture-advanced-bio-based-materials-and\/","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia, Taiwan Forge Strategic Bioeconomy Collaborations at BIO Asia -Taiwan 2026Three strategic collaborations unlock new opportunities in sustainable agriculture, advanced bio-based materials and biotechnology commercialisation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malaysia has further strengthened its position in the regional bioeconomy sector through the formalisation of three strategic collaborations worth approximately RM7 million at the Malaysia Regional Collaboration Forum held in conjunction with BIO Asia\u2013Taiwan 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malaysia\u2019s participation was led by the Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corporation), an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), to advance technology exchange, sustainable innovation and cross-border business opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The collaborations cover insect technology, advanced biochar-based materials and bird\u2019s nest-based biotechnology products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the agreements formalised was a collaboration worth approximately RM1 million between Sarawak-based Bio-based Accelerator (BBA) company Fly Technology Agriculture Sdn Bhd and Taiwan\u2019s Monster Biotech Co., Ltd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agreement involves the long-term purchase and supply of Black Soldier Fly (BSF)-based animal feed ingredients and BSF frass biofertiliser, expanding export opportunities for Malaysia while strengthening the country\u2019s position in sustainable biotechnology and insect protein production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A separate RM1 million agreement was formalised between BBA company MCHAR Sdn Bhd and Taiwan\u2019s TCHAR Co., Ltd. for the initial purchase of 20 tonnes of biochar. The collaboration will also support MCHAR\u2019s plans to establish a manufacturing plant in Malaysia to produce black pigment and other advanced biochar-based materials. The plant is expected to commence operations in 2027 and generate approximately RM20 million in revenue for the 2027\u20132028 financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, BioNexus Status company Glyken Bio Products Sdn Bhd exchanged a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan Bansho Co., Ltd., the international arm of Japan\u2019s Lien Group. Valued at RM5 million over five years, the collaboration seeks to expand the commercialisation and market access of Glyken&#8217;s proprietary bird&#8217;s nest-based biotechnology products in Taiwan as part of the group&#8217;s expansion strategy in regional and international markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bioeconomy Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak said the collaborations would strengthen regional supply chain resilience and create new commercial opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs global supply chains continue to face uncertainty, these strategic collaborations with Taiwan demonstrate how regional bioeconomy partnerships can diversify supply networks, strengthen food and industrial resilience, also create new business opportunities across Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGuided by the National Biotechnology Policy 2.0 under MOSTI, Bioeconomy Corporation remains committed to facilitating collaboration between our BioNexus Status and BBA companies with strategic partners in Taiwan and other parts of Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese collaborations will accelerate commercialisation, strengthen ASEAN\u2013East Asia ties and reinforce Malaysia\u2019s position as a trusted bioeconomy partner in the region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mohd Khairul said BIO Asia\u2013Taiwan 2026 provided an important platform for Malaysian companies to engage with industry players, investors and potential international partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis platform enables Malaysia to showcase its capabilities while creating value through innovation, commercialisation, and cross-border collaboration,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bioeconomy Corporation also led the Malaysian delegation to the Malaysia Regional Collaboration Forum, which brought together innovators, investors, industry leaders, researchers and international partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Themed \u201cUnlocking Biotechnology Growth: Innovation, Investment and Global Partnership Opportunities\u201d, the forum highlighted the capabilities of Malaysian companies in commercialising biotechnology research and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BBA company, Oncode Scientific Sdn Bhd, showcased its oncology diagnostic solutions, while BioNexus Status company, MYmAb Biologics Sdn Bhd highlighted its research and development of next-generation healthcare solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BioVerde Technologies Sdn Bhd, meanwhile, presented sustainable, high-value bio-based products that support green economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pharmaniaga Berhad and Duopharma Biotech Berhad also participated in the business matching programme to explore collaboration opportunities with international industry players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malaysia\u2019s participation at BIO Asia\u2013Taiwan 2026 reflects Bioeconomy Corporation\u2019s continuing efforts to promote the country\u2019s bioeconomy ecosystem, attract international collaborations and support Malaysian biotechnology companies in expanding into regional and global markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BIO Asia\u2013Taiwan is a leading biotechnology conference and exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region, bringing together global industry leaders, investors, researchers and policymakers to explore business opportunities and engage with Taiwan\u2019s rapidly growing biotech and medtech sectors.
