Ever imagined you can book your own private space while waiting to board the odd time flight at the airport terminal? Well, Vincent Tan and his business partner Ryan Loo of the Capsule Hotel Group (CHG) did just that.
Their aim was simple - to improve the airline passenger transit experience by helping passengers to book for a micro stay at a hotel of between one hour to 12 hours.
CHG was, after all, founded to focus on serving and reenergizing transit travelers at airports. In 2014, both Vincent and Ryan established the first Container Hotel in KLIA2 in 2014.
Built from renewable- freight- containers in the country, it showcases a container space to rest with rustic and industrial concepts aimed at the millennials from all over the world. True enough, the hotel attracted many travelers’ support and received heart-warming feedback from many.

“We developed the airport transit napping lounge products to serve wider passenger profiles,” explains Vincent who is the chief creative officer of CHG,
“Our vision is to see that there is a capsule hotel in every airport in the world.”
The two optimistic young Malaysian entrepreneurs have laid down plans to expand their unique transit hotel venture across Southeast Asian airports and perhaps beyond.
They then developed CapsuleTransitMax and Interstellar concepts at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), showcasing sleeker airline inspired designs where their facilities contained multiple sleeping areas and ‘chill-out’ zones for travelers.
However, come Covid-19 pandemic, Vincent laments that they had to halt all business expansion plans and find ways to pivot and sustain their business in this challenging times.

“The airline industry as you know is one of the badly hit industry during the lockdown. The number of travelers to KLIA2 significantly dropped to more than 80%,” he adds.
“Personally, I think that it would take two to three years for airline travels to recover,” he says firmly.
But the business must go on and today CHG focuses on a new project they named Bookhourly, which is a platform or rather a marketplace that replicates the micro stay experience at airports cater for travelers who are travelling within the country.
“The marketplace that we developed is based on transit models that we call this micro stays. What it means is that travelers may choose the hours that they wish to book ranging from 3 to 6 and 12 hours to enjoy daycation experiences,” Vincent explains.
The marketplace will feature participating hotels, spas as well as meeting and conference rooms – primarily all that business and leisure travelers need in a short span of time.
“This marketplace will allow flexibility where users can choose their own check in and check out time,” says Vincent, adding that the app is set for a beta launch at the end of this year.

According to Vincent, due to the pandemic, he sees that the adoption of technology has also sped up.
“Now everyone is onboard and clearly it is a necessity to invest in good business technology tools.”
