BUKIT JALIL, 19 OCTOBER 2022 - Celebrating brilliant minds and innovative solutions, the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) hosted its Global Accelerator Program (GAP) Demo Day: Thematic Edition Demo Day, featuring 15 innovative companies covering technologies focused on four (4) industries, namely Medicine and Healthcare, Business Services and Finance, Water and Food, and Drone Technology.
A total of 38 start-up companies participated in the 6th cohort and the first under the rebranded MRANTI GAP. These companies went through three (3) months of training to accelerate their growth in terms of commercialisation and readiness to generate investment through the development of innovative solutions that would impact society, the economy, and the world beyond.
Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Dr. Adham Bin Baba, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia was in attendance as the guest of honour among an array of key industry players and leaders.
“Malaysia has incredible potential to leverage and capitalise upon, but this would need a much tighter collaboration within the innovation ecosystem to support the growth and success of various industries. Through MRANTI, we aim to streamline and drive higher returns from the Research, Development, Commercialisation and Innovation (R&D&C&I) value chain,” said YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Adham Bin Baba.
He explained that, for Malaysia to increase its commercialisation rate and achieve the country's vision to be amongst the 20 most innovative countries by 2030, a cohesive and synergistic ecosystem is needed, to serve as a "bridge" between research and commercialisation.
“We are able to improve the country's position in the Global Innovation Index by implementing various initiatives. This includes the implementation of the MRANTI Park Master Plan which was launched by the YAB Prime Minister recently," he further added.

“Today’s programme proves that Malaysia has the potential to birth forth and grow startups and founders that are able to provide innovative solutions to a wide range of complex challenges and issues. Our goal at MRANTI is to assist these companies, by providing them with the support they need to develop their business, generate more job opportunities, and to improve the general national economy and innovation capabilities,” said Dzuleira Abu Bakar, the CEO of MRANTI.
She added, “A total of 38 companies from Malaysia, Singapore, Russia and the United Kingdom took part in this year’s cohort that spans four thematic accelerator tracks. We’ve decided to hyper-focus on these 4 markets to offer a more specialised curriculum that addresses the unique challenges and requirements of the industries.”
This round, the MRANTI GAP programme comprises of two (2) main phases, namely the commercialisation phase, followed by the pilot project and funding phase. The commercialisation phase helps companies to upscale towards investment readiness, and irons out preliminary hurdles of the business. While in the second phase, companies will put their pitching skills to use to secure funding for market expansion and diversify their portfolio. Upon completing this phase, MRANTI will also provide the companies with additional support and monitoring to jumpstart their growth.
