Kuala Lumpur, April 19 – Science Bridge Academy (SBA), a Malaysian science educational enrichment services provider focusing on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) space has received solid support from investors in their equity fund raising campaign.
SBA’s equity crowdfunding (ECF) campaign went live on 6th April 2017 and targeted to raise RM250,000 in 30 days. Right at the start, the company received overwhelming support from investors. The campaign was oversubscribed a few times over with more than RM340,000 invested in just six hours, which led to the campaign being closed on that very day.
SBA was founded by Cambridge University alumni, with the objective to inspire and drive awareness of science to primary and secondary students. They aim to link science-based theories to real life context and applications so that students see the relevance of what they are learning, in their daily lives. Their programmes incorporate thematic based learning with stories and role-play, which helps students with knowledge retention. SBA is also moving into the product space by developing science teaching kits for schools. This was supported by the Cradle Fund, which granted RM120,000 to the company last year to develop their first range of kits.
SBA CEO Dr Chua Hui Yen is overwhelmed with the support from investors. “We are building a company that will not only be profitable but also contribute to the advancement of the nation. We are grateful to our shareholders and people from the Cradle Fund who believed in us from the start, and who have helped us get to where we are today. Now, I would like to thank all of our investors for sharing our vision of bringing innovative and quality science education to the youth.”
Sam Shafie, the CEO of pitchIN is not surprised with the response that SBA received from investors. “Investors clearly saw the value of investing in Science Bridge Academy. This campaign is notable as Science Bridge Academy is the first education company to raise this amount of funding in such a short time. It is also the largest funded company in the education sector to date.
Sam added that pitchIN works hard to find good companies such as Science Bridge Academy for investors. “Our mission is to find and bring promising companies with great potential to investors. We have done that consistently as evidenced by the support we have received for all companies that have raised funds on pitchIN Equity. Since we started in mid-2016, we have successfully raised over RM4,000,000 for 7 companies, making pitchIN the number one ECF platform in Malaysia. Investors who missed out on these deals need not worry as we will have other great companies to invest in soon.”
