The World Amateur Golf Championship (WAGC), a prestigious International Amateur Golf tournament, is coming to Malaysia and will host some 800 amateur golfers from 47 countries.

“For this year, it is our pleasure to inform you that Malaysia has been awarded the right to host the 2017 World Amateur Golfers Championship World Final which would involve 45 countries, 800 golfers, non-golfers and spouses to be here from 18th to 25th November 2017,” said Perodua’s Chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin.

Delta Trend Gold & Leisure Holidays Sdn Bhd (DTGLH) acquired the rights to host the Championship from WGC Ltd, which is the governing body for this event, via an agreement to host the tournament from 2012 until 2020.

To make the 2017 World Final in Malaysia a success, DTGLH would require sponsorships which would cost approximately RM10 million in total for expenses like logistics: -accommodations and transportations, on top of the tournament venue.

“On Perodua’s involvement, we are proud to announce that Perodua has been the title sponsor since 2012 for the local chapter and the participation of the Malaysian team abroad,” Asmat said.

He explained that the decision to be a part of this event is based on the fact that Perodua’s customers are from all level of the society and it believes that golf, like any other sport contributes positively to society as it promotes self-improvement.

“In fact, those who are dedicated are often those who have the spirit to improve not only in their chosen sport but will also apply that passion in their professional and personal lives.”

“In that context, we have 6,000 amateur players experiencing the world standard tournament in the qualifying rounds with 75 players sponsored to participate in various countries around the world since 2012,” Asmat added.
