Kuala Lumpur, March 17 – The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the professional body for the automotive sector, will bring the spotlight on new technology in the automotive sector and its impact on businesses at the upcoming Automechanika Kuala Lumpur, the premier trade event for the automotive and aftermarket industry.

Matthew Stuart, Senior Manager of IMI South-East Asia, will be speaking on the topic of ‘New Technology and the Challenges Facing Future Workshops’ on 23rd March 2017, the first day of the event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

“It is crucial that industry players understand how the development of new vehicle technology is changing and affecting businesses and the skills required. With the rapid pace of technology advancements and as new technology become increasingly complex, technicians will be required to know about the technology and electrical equipment within vehicles, beyond the mechanical aspects”, said Stuart.

The speaking engagement is part of a joint-partnership with Messe Frankfurt, the organizer of Automechanika and whose global events are dedicated to improving the automotive supply chain and aftermarket. As Automechanika’s Global Skills Partner, the IMI seeks to increase the awareness amongst employers and national decision makers through Automechanika’s global platform on the need for more skilled people and higher professional standards.

“Automechanika has always sought to bring innovative and important topics of interest to all its visitors throughout their events. IMI’s partnership with them underlines both organisation’s commitment to best practice and skills development throughout the international automotive supply chain and aftermarket by increasing vocational training, as well as recognising the talent and skills already working within the sector”, said Steve Nash, CEO of IMI.

The IMI offers over 300 technical and non-technical qualifications and accreditations across 600 training partners in more than 27 countries around the world. In Malaysia, an average of 1,500 candidates are trained per year at partnering community colleges, automotive companies and education bodies.

Among IMI’s approved centres in Malaysia are Manfred Auto Academy,  Tekat Automotive Academy, Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd, the distributor of Mazda vehicles as well as community colleges such as Kepala Batas Community College’s Technology Centre for Hybrid and Electric Vehicle and the Pekan Community College.
