Langkawi, March 24 – The award of a contract by the Government of Malaysia (GoM) to Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd (BNS), an associate company of Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Berhad (BHIC), to build four units of Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is a ‘vote of confidence’ in the company as the premier defence contractor in Malaysia.

This was stated by BNS Chairman, Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, who is also Chairman of BHIC.

‘The award stands testimony to the Boustead Group’s ability to deliver superior products that fulfill the increasingly sophisticated and multifaceted roles and needs of the RMN,’ said Lodin.

BHIC, a company specialising in the defence shipbuilding and ship repairing and MRO activities, is a subsidiary of Boustead Holding Berhad (BHB), a conglomerate listed on Bursa Malaysia whose majority shareholder is Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT).

BHIC will be supplying those ships in collaboration with a partner shipyard in China. The contract, valued at RM1.17 billion, was signed by Ministry of Defence Secretary General, Datuk Seri Zulkiple Haji Kassim representing GoM and Lodin representing BNS. The ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.¬

The first of the two of the ships will be built and delivered in China in 2019 and 2020 while the remaining two will be built at Boustead Naval Shipyard in Lumut, Perak and will be delivered in 2021.

“The award of the LMS further consolidates the Boustead Group’s status as the premier naval shipyard in Malaysia and encourages us to continue providing RMN with the strategic assets needed to protect Malaysia’s maritime sovereignty,” added Lodin.
