Johor Bahru, April 14 – Styling itself as a youth-centric hotel that combines comfort with practicality, Bedtel, which soft-launched on 5 March 2017, is the latest option for students and young travellers looking for a wallet-friendly place to bed down for the night in Johor Bahru.
Not long after it opened, the Johor Education Foundation (JEF) booked the entire hotel for more than 300 students taking part in the “Duta Jauhar” (Young Ambassadors) programme that was held in Johor Bahru on 25 March 2017. The programme is an initiative by the Johor Menteri Besar and JEF to bring together students from institutes of higher learning across Malaysia to brainstorm and share ideas on the socio-economic development of Johor state.
Bedtel is located within the vibrant 3,800-acre township of Bandar Seri Alam that has a population of 80,000. The township is also recognised as a “city of knowledge” by the local authorities for its cluster of more than 10 academic institutions. Just minutes away from Bedtel are Asia Metropolitan University, Pegasus International School and Universiti Teknologi Mara.
Within Bedtel are 312 single beds located at separate blocks for male and female. Each bed comes with a study table, reading lamp and personal locker. The lobby is designed like a cafe where guests can mingle and socialise while meeting rooms are available for private group discussions.
“There is no shortage of hotels in Johor Bahru but when it comes to clean, comfortable and safe budget accommodation, choices are limited. Bedtel aims to fill that gap by offering students and budget-conscious travellers a place to stay amid a fun and friendly environment,” says Ng Siew Koon, CEO of UMLand Hospitality.
Amenities at Bedtel include: key-card access and surveillance cameras at common areas for improved security; 24-hour front desk service; wi-fi access throughout the premises; spacious lounge area with wide-screen television; male and female prayer rooms (surau); hot water showers; comfortable “pocket spring” mattresses; lift access to all floors; and free parking; among others.
Within a short walking distance from Bedtel are food outlets, convenience store, cyber cafe, laundry, gym and the Seri Alam lake which has a jogging trail. Between five and 10 minutes’ drive away is Tesco supermarket, Today’s Mall and other entertainment outlets.
Bedtel welcomes both students and adults to stay the night at rates starting from RM30 while monthly and longer-term stays are also possible.
