Fifteen Math and Science teachers from all over the country were recognised recently for their achievements in successfully completing the Honeywell Educators at Space Academy Program, organised recently by Honeywell and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) in June 2016 and 2017.
This award-winning scholarship programme was created by Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company’s corporate citizenship initiative, in partnership with USSRC, Since its launch, 2,776 educators from 62 countries, including 25 from Malaysia; and 52 US states and territories have graduated from the programme.
The week-long programme is held at the USSRC, where teachers participate in 45 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction, focused specifically on science and space exploration.
Teachers participated in astronaut-style exercises such as high-performance jet simulation, scenario-based space missions, coding challenges, land and water survival training and interactive flight dynamics programs. Through these exercises, teachers learn how to reinvigorate their classroom with ideas, lessons and other materials.
President of Honeywell ASEAN Briand Greer says as a leading technology software company, Honeywell places a great deal of importance on educating our next generation of scientists and engineers.
“We are delighted to have been able to provide this opportunity to the selected teachers from Malaysia. The rise in the number of teachers selected to go from the ASEAN region is encouraging. It reflects and reinforces our strong commitment to talent growth and the development of STEM in the region,” he adds.
HESA candidates complete a rigorous application process. Qualified teachers are awarded scholarships, round-trip airfare, tuition, meals and accommodations, thanks to the generous support of Honeywell and its employees.
