Bangkok, Thailand, March 9 – GHL (Thailand) Co. Ltd; a wholly owned subsidiary of GHL Systems Bhd has yesterday signed an agreement with CIMB Thai Bank Limited (CIMB Thai) to jointly provide card payment services in Thailand.
This tie-up seeks to offer card payment acceptance services to CIMB Thai’s corporate clients involved in the retail as well as services segment.
This will enable CIMB Thai’s merchants to accept credit card payment services at their premises as well online transactions. GHL will be the exclusive partner to service and manage these merchants.
The signing of this agreement by Kittiphun Anutarasoti, CIMB Thai Bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer and Danny Leong, Group Chief Executive Officer of GHL Systems Bhd was conducted CIMB Thai’s main Consumer Card Centre at CIMB Thai Head Office.
There are presently only an estimated 400,000 EDC & POS terminals servicing 22 million credit cards and 48 million debit cards issued in a country with a population of 68 million consumers.
Both GHL and CIMB Thai Bank hope to sign-up and enable more merchants to offer alternative payment solutions rather than traditional cash payments. Moreover, the central bank, Bank of Thailand, has set a target of 2.000,000 new acceptance points to further encourage the move from cash to electronic payments.
“The partnership with GHL allows CIMB Thai to offer a more complete and comprehensive cash management solution to further expand our customer base.” said Kittiphun of CIMB Thai.
