Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) recently formalised an MoU document exchange ceremony for smart services deployment and delivery in Iskandar Malaysia.
Datuk Bazlan Osman, Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer, TM exchanged the MoU documents with Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, Chief Executive of IRDA in the presence of Datuk Sri Najib Tun Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia and Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Chief Minister of Johor.
The MoU marks a steadfast effort in strategic collaboration between TM and IRDA to ensure effective delivery of Sustainable Smart City Services. As outlined in the Iskandar Malaysia Comprehensive Development Plan ii (CDPii) 2014-2025, the Iskandar Malaysia Smart City programme aims to accelerate growth through a sustainable economic and technological ecosystem towards smart, connected and inclusive communities. This will further enhance the Rakyat’s quality of life, in line with the region’s aspiration to become the choice destination to invest, work, live and play.
Bazlan commented about the MoU by saying, “As the nation’s leading fully integrated telecommunications, ICT and smart services provider, TM is proud to play an integral role in establishing the eco-system that will make Iskandar Malaysia the country’s model of a completely modern digital city by bringing in world class telecommunications and smart city services to the southern economic region of Malaysia.”
Ismail said, “IRDA welcomes organisations like TM to collaborate together with IRDA towards achieving Iskandar Malaysia’s vision of becoming a Strong and Sustainable Metropolis of International Standing.”
The agreement will enable TM to implement suitable smart services such as safety and security, smart mobility, city-wide services, energy and facilities management, as well as citizen portal in line with the Iskandar Malaysia Smart City Blueprint. TM will identify key requirements for these services and develop specific business and delivery models for identified services in Iskandar Malaysia.
“Provision of smart services is not new to TM as the Group has been delivering various smart services in Malaysia, including security surveillance, traffic management and connected shopper. With the signing of this MOU, we are leveraging on our expertise in smart city solutions to benefit Iskandar Malaysia”, added Bazlan.
TM’s investments in Iskandar Malaysia include the fibre optic telecommunication infrastructure, a world class data centre and an Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) for the delivery of smart services solutions.
The IOC, the first ever in Malaysia, will serve as a centralised command centre for Internet of Things (IoT) operations of smart city services. This will enable TM to provide a single monitoring dashboard to coordinate operations of smart services involving physical devices and sensors, vehicles, buildings as well as incidents and events.
