In a major move to bolster local resilience, Google and ChangeX have officially opened applications for the Google Semarak Malaysia Fund: Selangor. Launched on 14 April 2026, this strategic partnership aims to transform Selangor into a hub for community-led innovation, focusing on workforce readiness, small business growth, and environmental sustainability.
For local schools and non-profits, this isn’t just another grant—it’s a “toolkit for progress” designed to turn neighborhood visions into measurable impact.
1. Funding Tracks: Choose Your Impact
The fund offers two distinct pathways for local schools and organisations to secure resources:
- Track 1: Replicating “Proven Ideas” Applicants can apply for funding to start established, high-impact projects. These include initiatives like training women in underserved areas to build sustainable businesses or developing community repair leaders to run hands-on workshops.
- Track 2: The “Open Grant” for Local Innovation Schools and NGOs can apply for up to RM30,000 to fund their own unique community projects. To qualify, these projects must align with the fund’s core themes: AI and digital training, workforce skilling, or watershed and energy sustainability.
2. Selection & Eligibility: Who Can Apply?
The fund is open to all NGOs, non-profits, social enterprises, and schools currently operating within the state of Selangor.
The Decision Process:
- For Proven Ideas: Google and ChangeX work alongside the social innovators behind the “proven ideas” to screen and evaluate applicants.
- For Open Grants: All custom project applications are reviewed directly by ChangeX and Google based on fund criteria and potential impact.
3. Why Selangor? The Google Perspective
As a key area of operation for Google’s infrastructure in Malaysia, the fund reflects Google’s mission to be a “dedicated community partner”.
“We look forward to working with communities across Selangor to build practical skills and deliver sustainable initiatives in areas like water stewardship and energy affordability.”
Utaukwa Allen, Global Head of Economic Development & Data Centers at Google.
